The Declaration of Independence proclaims that our rights are endowed upon us by our Creator—and the first right is the right to life. But more than 50 years of abortion has done much to undermine that right. Meanwhile, the Hyde Amendment, introduced 50 years ago, has worked to lessen the negative impact of abortion. The Hyde Amendment prohibits taxpayer-funded abortions. It’s estimated that this amendment has saved at least 2.6 million lives. Yet critics note that President Trump, who has done so much to advance pro-life measures, said recently that we need to be “a little bit flexible on Hyde.” Caitlin Connors, Political Director for Susan B.
