Podcast with Cliff Martin on Religious Liberty Case
Topic: Religious Freedom at Risk.
Should a teacher be forced against his or her will to promote material that directly contradicts his faith? America’s founders wrote in the first amendment, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” But for several decades, many judges, including justices on the Supreme Court, interpreted the first part of those words to mean a separation of church and state—by which they really meant a separation of God and government. One of the great Christian legal groups of our time is First Liberty, based in the Dallas area. This legal group sent a cease and desist letter involving the violation of the conscience rights and freedom of religion of teacher at a Nashville school. Cliff Martin joins Jerry Newcombe to discuss this case how religious freedom is at risk. www.firstliberty.org
Editors’ Post-script: First Liberty reported on 3-2-26 that the school has agreed to comply with the freedom of conscience terms that First Liberty called for. While the story is resolved, thankfully, the case still shows the kind of battle for religious liberty we are in today.
