Podcast with AL Chief Justice Tom Parker on Blackstone

Topic: “The Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.”

The chief justice of Alabama’s Supreme Court is Thomas Parker. He spoke recently at a church (Paul Jehle’s church in Plymouth, MA) on the influence of God’s law on American law. Our Declaration of Independence references “the laws of nature and of nature’s God.” He emphasized the importance of Sir William Blackstone to America’s founders. In the 1700s, Blackstone wrote four commentaries on the laws of England. These books were very important to America’s founders. Blackstone said things such as “The doctrines thus delivered we call the revealed or divine law, and they are to be found only in the holy scriptures….Upon these two foundations, the law of nature and law of revelation, depend all human laws; that is to say, no human laws should be suffered to contradict these.” Chief Justice Thomas Parker joins Jerry Newcombe to help us understand the law of God is to American law, even today.
