Podcast with Author Jonathan Horn on a Lesson in History from World War II
Topic: Lessons in History Concerning Generals MacArthur and Wainright in the Battle for the Philippines.
The largest U.S. surrender in history took place during World War II in the Philippines. A new book has just come out this year, 80 years after the end of World War II. The book is called The Fate of the Generals, and it deals with the conflict and two conflicting styles of leadership. The contrast is between General Douglas MacArthur and General Jonathan Wainright, the highest-ranking American POW of World War II. The author of this new book is Jonathan Horn, a former speechwriter for George W. Bush and the author of a book on Robert E. Lee. The new book has been described this way: It reveals “the human cost of war and the complex nature of heroism.” Author Jonathon Horn joins Jerry Newcombe to discuss The Fate of the Generals.
