Podcast with Dr. Greg Seltz on the Church’s Role in Society
Dr. Greg Seltz Topic: The Church’s Role in Society.
In colonial America, some scholars have noted, often the church was the hub of society. Certainly that was the case in New England, where each town would have its meeting hall—for church and for town meetings. Eventually, these village squares would have a separate building for the church and another for the town hall. What about today? Dr. Gregory P. Seltz, the executive director of the Lutheran Center for Religious Liberty, writes on “the Church’s role in Society (not the ultimate evangelism role, but the moral voice of a civil society).” He wonders: If the politics finally were to return to its limited, law/order role, then are we ready to deal with that responsibility? He writes, “Or do we also think deep down that politics is the solution to many of our cultural issues? In short, is the Church ready to be that moral, preserving voice in culture motivated by the Gospel, of course…..or will we let the ‘government types’ sweep back in and say that they’ll do it for us?” Dr. Greg Seltz, the speaker emeritus on the Lutheran Hour, joins Jerry Newcombe to discuss Christian involvement (or the lack thereof) in the public arena. www.lcrlfreedom.org
