Podcast with Historian Dr. Mary Grabar on FDR and Myths Surrounding Our 32nd President
Topic: Debunking FDR: The Man and the Myths.
The founding fathers envisioned a limited central government. When did the U.S. government get so big? During the FDR administration, beginning in the 1930s. But is FDR as great as he’s often made out to be? Publius Communications writes, “The myths about Franklin Delano Roosevelt live on. For the left, FDR was a champion of the working class and the oppressed, suffering abuse as a ‘traitor to his class.’ He gave up the lifestyle of the Hudson River gentry to lead his country out of the Depression and to victory against fascism. For many on the right, FDR was out of his depth on economics but provided Americans with the optimism and confidence necessary to prevail during the Depression and gain victory in World War II.” Now there’s a new book called “Debunking FDR: The Man and the Myths,” and it’s by historian Dr. Mary Grabar, who wrote the great book called Debunking Howard Zinn is Exposing the Fake History That Turned a Generation against America. We’ve had Dr. Grabar on before discussing that book and debunking the 1619 Project. Dr. Mary Grabar joins Jerry Newcombe to discuss FDR, the man and the myths. www.marygrabar.com
