Podcast with Mark Beliles on the Signing of the Declaration of Independence
Topic: The Signing of the Declaration of Independence.
All this year we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the adoption by voice-vote on July 4, 1776 of the final wording of the Declaration of Independence. The first one to have his name affixed to the document was John Hancock. But the Declaration was not signed in earnest until August 2 of 1776. The first to sign it on that day was Samuel Adams, who was the prime mover behind the whole push for American independence in the first place. When he signed it, Samuel Adams said, “We have this day restored the Sovereign to whom alone ought to be obedient. He reigns in Heaven. From the rising to the setting sun, may His kingdom comes. Mark Beliles, co-author of Thomas Jefferson and the God Who Gave Us Liberty, joins Jerry Newcombe, the other co-author to talk about the signing of the Declaration of Independence. www.250Declaration.com
