Podcast with Providence Forum Founder Dr. Peter Lillback on “Is Patriotism Biblical”?
Topic: Is Patriotism Biblical?
Is patriotism biblical? Ever since the days of the Vietnam War, it seems as if there’s a portion of Americans who think it’s not cool to be patriotic. One can argue that there is something of a link between love of God and love of country—not that the two always go hand in hand. In the 1500s, Sir Thomas More was executed by King Henry VIII, for not caving on the notion that the church would affirm the king’s unbiblical divorce and remarriage. More’s dying words were classic, “Tell the king I die as his good servant, but God’s first.” If it’s an either/or—God or country—for many of us, God must always come first. But meanwhile, is there a place for patriotism? Is it Biblical? Dr. Peter Lillback is the founding president of Providence Forum, which he generously donated to Coral Ridge Ministries. Jerry Newcombe serves as the executive director of Providence Forum. Dr. Peter Lillback joins Jerry Newcombe to discuss: Is patriotism Biblical? www.providenceforum.org
