Podcast with Stephen McDowell on Renewing Our Commitment to the Declaration of Independence
Topic: Re-committing to the Declaration of Independence.
Do modern Americans need to recommit ourselves to the principles of the Declaration of Independence, our nation’s founding document? Recently we celebrated the 250th anniversary of the acceptance of the Declaration (by voice vote) on July 4, 1776. This month, August 2026, we celebrate the signing of same by the delegates who were able to return to Philadelphia in early August 1776. So to honor the 250th anniversary of the SIGNING of the Declaration, which began on August 2, 1776, there was a webinar involving many historians and Christian leaders. Yours truly was able to participate in this, as were many others. That included Stephen McDowell, co-founder and president of Providence Foundation based in Charlottesville, Virginia. You can watch the online event here. (Stephen McDowell’s part appears about 59:52 from the top.) In this presentation, historian Stephen McDowell gave us 3 pieces of advice for Americans that he believes Thomas Jefferson would have for us to heed today. For example, the first is to remember that God is the source of our rights. Stephen McDowell joins Jerry Newcombe, executive director of Providence Forum (of Coral Ridge Ministries) to discuss why modern Americans need to recommit to the Declaration of Independence. www.providencefoundation.com
