Podcast with Steve Cortes on Values Voters and Off-Year Electionss

Topic: Values Voters and Non-presidential Elections.

The Constitution famously begins with the words “We the People.” And we the people determine who our rulers will be, based on our elections. It behooves us as Christians and people of good will to make sure we get our voice heard—even in the off-calendar or irregular elections (non-presidential elections). For example, in Wisconsin several weeks ago, there was a heated election for a state Supreme Court seat. Unfortunately, the left prevailed in voting in Susan Crawford. It was one of the most expensive political campaigns for such a post. Steve Cortes is a former commentator on Fox News and CNN, who has served “at senior levels in presidential and US Senate campaigns.” Today Steve Cortes is a senior political advisor for Catholic Vote. Before that Wisconsin vote, he wrote a recent op-ed, highlighting the extreme positions that Susan Crawford has taken—for example, defending Planned Parenthood. If more values voters had participated, the outcome could have been different. Perhaps the vote could serve as a wakeup call for future special elections. Steve Cortes joins Jerry Newcombe to discuss the importance of values voters showing up at elections—including the off-season ones. www.catholicvote.org
