Podcast with Ted Baehr of Movieguide on Redeeming Hollywood
Topic: Redeeming Hollywood, Including a Discussion on Ted’s Father, “Tex” Allen, 1930s Cowboy Star
The founders of America said that we can keep our republic if the people are moral, and if they are well-educated. Alas, today, there are many Americans who do not fit in either category. One influence for good or ill, depending on whom you ask, is Hollywood and movies. Dr. Ted Baehr is the publisher for the faith-based MOVIEGUIDE, which provides a Biblical critique of films. How can we redeem Hollywood? The short answer, argues Ted Baehr, is by the church applying more influence there. When the church in various ways had more influence in Hollywood, it helped produce the Golden Age of Hollywood. Ted Baehr has written a new book about one actor of the golden age of Hollywood—and that is, his own father, who was a Hollywood star in cowboy pictures. His name was Robert Bob “Tex” Allen. His son, Ted Baehr, has now written a book to honor his father’s memory. It’s called Behind the Scenes of the Golden Age of Hollywood and Broadway: The Legacy of Robert Allen. Dr. Ted Baehr joins Jerry Newcombe to discuss redeeming Hollywood. www.movieguide.org
