Podcast with Tim Goeglein on the Need for Reform in Education
Topic: The Need for Reform in Education.
Education was very important to the founding fathers. They even wrote up the Northwest Ordinance and passed it in 1789. There’s a section in there about education. It reads: “Religion, morality, and knowledge, being necessary for good government and the happiness of mankind, schools and the means of education shall forever be encouraged.” Religion (which in those days meant Christianity of one denomination or another) in schools? Maybe back then. But not now.
The Bible says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. But in most of our schools, God is not welcome. And the education standards have been plummeting. Author Tim Goeglein, vice president of Focus on the Family, wrote a piece recently, to which we’ll link. It’s called, “Another year, another depressing report on the state of American education.” Tim Goeglein, co-author of the new book, “American Restoration: How Faith, Family, and Personal Sacrifice Can Heal Our Nation,” joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss education today and how it can be changed. www.fotf.org
