In America, education for the masses was initially Christian. The purpose of the school was so that the children could read the Bible for themselves. A lot of the education took place at home. And back then the literacy rate was much higher. In the last few decades there’s been a resurgence of home schooling. It is now legal in all 50 states. Homeschooling is not for everybody, but maybe it’s a viable option for more people than is realized.
