Many people today believe that the founding fathers were men of the Enlightenment and, for the most part, not Christians. Furthermore, they believe that the founders intended America to be completely secular. As to the Enlightenment charge, the Enlightenment thinkers the founders quoted were men like Montesquieu, Sir William Blackstone, and John Locke—who were all dedicated Christians. As to the idea that the founders intended for there to be no religious influence, this short video traces some of the Bible’s influence on our nation’s governing document.
