The famed Italian voyager who stood 6' tall unwittingly discovered America as he intended to discover a westerly route to India. The mariner in our day bears a split historical personality.  Is he an intrepid explorer or a greedy exploiter? This much we agree upon, “In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue...”. But should October 12th be Columbus Day or Indigenous People’s Day?  Was he a successful sailor or a murderous mariner?

The politically correct interpretation of the West has gained ascendancy and in its hegemony, it has decreed that the indigenous peoples of the “new world” be given their due respect at the expense of the great discoverer.
