Part 1 – aired April 13, 2017

Dr. Lillback and Jerry Newcombe, co-authors of George Washington’s Sacred Fire, discuss the faith of Washington and explain why there was a need to respond to the critical scholars who had incorrectly pigeonholed Washington as a Deist.

Part 2 – aired April 27, 2017

Was George Washington a Christian and why does it matter? Dr. Lillback joined forces with Jerry Newcombe to produce the 1200-page book on the faith of our first president, “George Washington’s Sacred Fire.” Peter Lillback joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to answer the questions, “Was George Washington a Christian and why does it matter?”

Part 3 – aired May 4, 2017

Some people object to the idea that George Washington was a Christian. Wasn’t he a Mason? Didn’t he own slaves? Didn’t he use strange (to us) names for God? Didn’t he avoid communion? On this segment of Vocal Point, Peter Lillback and Jerry Newcombe discuss objections to the notion that our first president was a Christian.

Part 4 – aired May 11, 2017

Some people object to George Washington’s use of names for God that we’re not familiar with today—e.g. the Great Architect of the Universe, Providence, etc. Some critics go so far as to say that Washington was therefore a Deist. On this segment of Vocal Point, Peter Lillback and Jerry Newcombe discuss our first president and the name of God.
