Podcast with Constitutional Attorney Jeremy Dys of First Liberty on a Religious Liberty Case

Topic: Religious Freedom at Risk.

America’s founders wrote in the first amendment, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” But for several decades, many judges, including justices on the Supreme Court, interpreted the first part of those words to mean a separation of church and state—by which they really meant a separation of God and government. One of the great Christian legal groups of our time is First Liberty, based in the Dallas area. They have written about one of their recent cases, this one out of New Hampshire: “Pastor Howard Kaloogian founded Grace New England Church in his home as a church plant. He welcomes people in his home and occasionally holds social gatherings for invited guests. In October of 2023, he received a ‘Cease and Desist’ notice from the Town of Weare stating, ‘you are to immediately stop any assembly regarding Grace New England Church. This Cease and Desist will remain in effect until a site plan is submitted, reviewed and there is a decision made by the Town Planning Board.’” Jeremy Dys, senior counsel of First Liberty, joins Jerry Newcombe to discuss religious liberty, including this case. www.firstliberty.org
