Podcast with Labor Expert Hugh Whelchel on Work and What the Puritans Called “the Calling”
Topic: Work, vocation, calling
Many years ago, an arena filled with business people was asked this question: “If you went home tonight and found that a long lost relative had died and left you ten million dollars, would you be at work tomorrow?” “NO!” shouted the crowd. Meanwhile, a Gallup poll “found that 77 percent of Americans hate their jobs.” So writes Hugh Whelchel, who studied the issue of work, of vocation, of calling, for many years. He wrote a book called How Then Should We Work? Rediscovering the Biblical Doctrine of Work. Hugh is the executive director of the Institute for Faith, Work & Economics. Does our work matter before God? Certainly. Hugh Whelchel joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss work, vocations, callings. www.tifwe.org
